A new video shares the process of creating the memorial and what it means to the community and families to be surrounded by the beautiful sculpture garden. The video presents visuals of each part of the memorial: the beacon sculpture, community gathering area, geology exhibit, first responders area, survivors shelter, individual memorial panels, reflection shelter and transformation path.
Snohomish County Parks and Recreation worked with the Slide Memorial Committee (family and community members of victims, survivors and responders of the March 22, 2014, SR 530 Landslide) to build a permanent memorial at the site of the tragic event to honor those who were lost, those who survived, the responders and the resilience of the surrounding communities. Snohomish County purchased the land for the memorial in 2015, and designs began in 2017. Construction took place October 2022 to March 2024 and the site was officially dedicated 10 years after the landslide on March 22, 2024.
